We all know that Emishi is a descendant of the ancient chinese kingdom of Rouran. I thought that was a term invented in the manga, but when I was consulting some data, I found that perhaps what Emishi really says is "Loulan" instead "Rouran". In Japanese there's no "l" ... and it's replaced by "r" Loulan's kingdom really existed.... http://yeschinatour.com/china-guides/china-attractions/loulan-ancient-city-korla/But on the other hand... "Rouran" also exists in the chinese history, as a confederation of nomad tribes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rouran_KhaganateEmishi talked about it in vol. 12, and said that was descendant "of the ancient Rouran Kingdom that prospered on the silk road". What do you think; "Loulan" or "Rouran"?

Sounds like it'd have to be Loulan, since the article says they were the kingdom on the Silk Road. Cool info.

Thank you!
I was surprised when I found it, and I thought it might be interesting for other fans of this manga.
It's a manga full of surprises; Yuya Aoki, the writer, apparently made an amazing work of documentation.

I think Loulan seems like the best choice, too -- and that's the word I'm most familiar with, for some reason. Maybe that's the way I saw it translated in the anime or something. Either way, it's fascinating to see that both are a possibility, and to see how so much of what we love is actually grounded in the real world!

Hey whatever it was, Rouran has a way better edge, bsides, i wont ever think of it wit an L. and you dont hav to b this exact, if Emishi-san had a prob, he'd whipped it already
