I usually prefer individual songs before whole genres, and since nearly every band/musician there is specify in a certain genre, this means it's not easy for me to favor certain bands above others. However, some have succeeded with the impossible, and I guess I can list them for the sake of everyone who finds it mildly interesting. Japanese bands/musicians: Ali Project. Ayumi Hamasaki. High and Mighty Color. KOTOKO. Mizuki Nana. Nightmare. T.M. Revolution. Others: ABBA (come on! How can you NOT love them!) Dr Bombay. Melody Club. Modern Talking. Nightwish. Within Temptation. Something like that~

I'm really into psychedelic stuff so bands that I really like are Infected Mushroom and Hilight Tribe when it comes to trance. MGMT and Animal collective are great bands as well, but theyre more psychedelic pop again. My two fav rock bands are Tool and System of a Down.

Recently (talking about J-music) I'm really into "KAT-TUN" and "X Japan". I love their music!

Anyone who listens to J-Rock must not miss Buck-Tick. They're like, one of the fathers of J-Rock and visual-kei. If you're turned off by the visual-kei of today's generation, don't worry. B-T looks normal compared to some J-Rock visual kei bands these days. I also rec Kagrra,. They mix elements of J-Rock and Japanese ethnic instruments real good, giving their rock songs an oriental feel. The other J-bands: Sukima Switch, Sunset Swish, Access, acid black cherry, abingdon boys school.
If you're on the C-Pop side, I rec Powerstation. They're a Taiwanese band formed by two brothers, and trust me, they're good.
For some English... 30 Seconds to Mars. Never, ever, pass that band for something else. Never.
And oh. 12 Girls Band. They play instrumental versions of some songs, but what makes them different is that they use traditional Chinese instruments. Watching them live though is completely WOW.

I don't listen to too much Japanese music (that's my sister's forte), but I love Ego Likeness, Florence and the Machine, Tarja, and The Mission.
