How about Genshiken, Nodame Cantabile and Flame of Recca?
Fruits Basket is pretty well written too, but I can't say much for the art's consistency.

Hmmm.. Most of the stuff here are rather famous, so I'll name the not-so-known ones (that I work on... haha.. advertising)
Hitogatana = Action, SF Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai = comedy, romance, has very few R-18 moments tho (and it's getting an anime!) O/A = comedy Kamisama Dolls = Action, SF, also getting an anime Paradox Blue = mystery Tasogare Otome X Amnesia = mystery-ish

Well Full Metal Alchemist is widely considered to have a slightly different style then other shounen style, but you should try fairy tail. I love it, and its very popular recently, but hitman reborn is also god. And its pretty hard not to cheer Kenichi on in History's strongest disciple Kenichi (the second version, not the one thats forty chapters, but the ongoing one). He is a lovable guy.

Merged "List of Recommended Manga" with "Suggestions for good mangas to read", since it's more convenient to have one thread where people can just name-drop mangas they like, instead of two.

GTO Shonan 14 Days Shonan Junai Gumi Bad Company I love GTO! Shonan Junai Gumi was dropped by Tokyopop with a lot of volumes to go (11) untranslated. But finally they are being released, or started to be released in February next year! Two books per volume. The same company is also begining to translate and release Shonan 14 Days in January next year.

mmmm i really love nana, thought it's an incompleta manga and it's no too sure that the mangaka will actually finish it... another great series are: dragon ball (it marked my childhoold), dragon quest, inuyasha, momo, detective conan, fruits basket, fushigi yugi, yu yu hakusho (though i prefer the anime), full metal alchemist (incredible serie)... and of course, the well known naruto, one piece and bleach (specially the last two).
