1 Trans, Scans, and Raws / Translation Requests / Translation request of a screenshot from the GBs videogame? on: March 22, 2011, 05:38:31 pm
Does anyone in the house know any Japanese? :3

I am fortunate enough to have one of the GetBackers video games to run through some really cool PS2 emulation software. Dakkandayo! Zenin Shuugou!! to be exact :3 It's actually downright hilarious; the first boss is a woman who turns into a man, that fights by kissing and straddling poor Ban and Ginji. Oh Japan <3 I don't understand any of the dialogue except for the characters names and the occasional plot word like "Mugenjo" so as I'm playing I usually make up what's going on. (Though I am pretty proud to say that I can recognize Ban and Ginji's names, Ban's name looking like a cobra being charmed out of it's little basket, and the second character of Ginji's looking like a guy really enthusiastically dancing Grin)

Anyway, every once in a while Emishi or Juubei pops out of a mystery box. The game pauses, Emishi moves around a bit, and then he dissapears. I have no idea what's supposed to be happening xD

And this is what he says.

Any ideas as to what's going on guys? Cheesy

Oh Amon <3 He had me IN TEARS and I'd only met him a couple books previously! Seconding everything everyone's already said about him, he's such an intriguing and just so damn happy.

Saizo is also a character that's had me drawn in from the beginning; His whole energy and manner of speaking drew me in, and I love the complexities of his personality. He's got a lot of cool charisma, and his character design is like, the mullet'd version of the Fuchoin school.

And I like Teshimine a lot :3 He has a cool design, and the fact he can be important to the story, but still remain such an enigma, is really interesting.
3 Other / Off topic / Re: What are your past and current fandoms? on: March 22, 2011, 05:17:23 pm
-shuffles around-

I don't really like anime or manga, that's how universally amazing GetBackers is xD

Buuttt, I read a lot of books. I'd say my first huge thing (and c'mon, who's wasn't?) was definitely Harry Potter <3 I started reading the books when I was in 3rd grade and the whole fandom still has me locked in. It's a classic <3 Another close second would be Lord of the Rings; my Dad had me started on Tolkien really early and around that time, the movies were coming out, so it was real awesome. His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman and Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan (>__> I will admit I am a HUGE sucker for Greek Mythology) are really up there as well :3

What can I say? I love stories that blend history, art, religious, esoteric, folklore, and mythological foundations all into one new and interesting thing :3

Nice to meet you Lin! :3
French is definitely a useful language! I wish I knew Japanese (like, knew through osmosis without any effort), and if there's a French translation issue I don't agree with I have to go beg my 14 year old sister (who's such a cute little otaku <3) to download the Japanese raws and help my figure out what's up. It would be useful to know the two but alas, I picked a language with the same alphabet as my own for a reason, bwahaha.

Hrrm, all very interesting questions! :O

This is all book 35 stuff
I could have this wrong (I didn't read the final chapters in my native language so as I'm going through, I'm finding little details and important points I overlooked as I was reading xD), but I was pretty sure that Ban's mom's freak-out happened in Japan. Ban tells Ginji in book 28, that when he was real young, he lived in Japan. I figured he, Kaiser, and Mamma Ban all lived in Japan, until she called him a Devil's Child, and he left for Germany with Maria and the Witch Queen. Kaiser couldn't have been in Japan when she called him a spawn of the devil, because like Artemis said, Kaiser was actually in that flashback comforting Mamma Ban.

As far as what happened with his Dad, Him, and his Mom, my guess would be what happened was Mugenjo. When Kaiser and Paul go through the door, if we make the inference that Kaiser and Mamma Ban were still together after Ban went to Germany ( If his immortality kept him at the age he was when he replaced his heart with the key, he still has his wedding band on), by deciding to stay behind the door, he just up and abandoned her. Paul would have been left to go back to Shinjuku to Mamma Ban and say "Oh hey, about your husband...". I think that's maybe what Kaiser meant about her being fragile and weak.
Ban probably somehow heard about what had happened in his wanderings. He's been foreshadowed to be a little sensitive about that kind of thing (Remember how he acted towards Shido in the Mariuudo story arc, even going so far as yelling at his lifeless body?)

That's kinda what I though, as far as chronology goes, but I'll probably know much more as I carefully examine the later volumes. Smiley

6 Welcome / Introductions / Hello All! on: March 18, 2011, 08:41:49 pm
It's so nice to see other people who appreciate the sheer awesomeness that is GetBackers Smiley

My name's Madd, and I'm a 19 year old French Major in college. I love the series! My boyfriend started reading them when he was 12, and he had volumes up to about Marine Red, and he really encouraged me to read them. After getting through the horrendous Tokyopop dialogue ("You're about to see some trippy haps!"), I fell in love Smiley I don't even normally like anime or manga, that's how awesomely complex the series is.

I was beyond bummed when I finished what he had, but luckily I ordered the rest of the series from Luxembourg and just finished the series last weekend. I read for so long in French it was almost weird reading English the next day xD I'm pursuing a career in translation, so I'm actually translating, debinding, scanning, editing, and rebinding with the final goal being an actual bound and finished book to put on the shelf with the other volumes. It's a long an arduous process but it's worth it (translating for Ban has given me PLENTY of experience with slang and idioms, haha).

Anyway, my favorite character's between Ban and Ginji (but not all at once!) and randomly, my boyfriend could pull off a wicked Takeru Teshimine :3

Nice to meet you all!
Madd
