1  The Honky Tonk Lounge / General Anime Discussion / Re: What was the latest anime you completed/watched? on: August 28, 2010, 11:56:52 pm
To be perfectly honest, the only reason I am wary of anything by Key is because of how emotionally scarring Kanon was. I mean, I definitely lost major dude points

. Then again, I've never played any of the eroge/visual novels, so I'm a little less learned on the way these evil people structure things. AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON BLOODY AIR! Although, Angel Beats was definitely a lot more bearable than the others.... A lot more.
2  Interests and Hobbies / TV and Movies / Re: KICKASS movie on: August 22, 2010, 11:59:49 am
This movie was definitely more than I expected. I mean, I understood the premise and I expected Kick-Ass to get beaten to prove he was just a kid in a costume, but the storyline was ripped away from him and it became Hit-Girl and Big Daddy, with Kick-Ass as the sidekick who saved Hit-Girl's ass. I enjoyed the movie and was glad that I went and saw it. Besides, who HASN'T always wanted a bazooka?
3  Interests and Hobbies / TV and Movies / Re: Your favourite cartoons as a kid? on: August 22, 2010, 11:57:36 am
There were a lot growing up, but according to my parents, when I was a wee lad it was mostly G.I. Joe and Transformers. Of course, I also remember likeing Gargoyles and Tale Spin, and Chip and Dale, and a lot of those old Disney cartoons. Toon Disney is still a hot clicker whenever I'm feeling nostalgia-bound and nothing better to do.
4  Interests and Hobbies / TV and Movies / Scott Pilgrim on: August 22, 2010, 11:54:50 am
I read a lot of hate for this movie, either because it was crappily adapted, or because some people view it as a hipster kind of movie, but I'm sorry, I saw something completely different. What I saw when I watched this movie was a comical blend of action, comics, and video games rolled into one badass movie. I highly anticipated this movie for the last 4 months and I can't wait 'til the DVD comes out. Granted, I want to read the books, but I don't want to be considered a fan just because of the movie.

Anyone else seen it? Gimme some opinions.
5  The Honky Tonk Lounge / Getbackers Manga Discussion / Re: Who here loves Japanese honorifics? on: August 22, 2010, 11:49:30 am
It's a definite keeper. When some translators in subs and scanlations change it to Mr. or Lord, it sometimes takes away from the meaning. I mean, the GB anime got away with it because they had a good grasp on the intonations of the names between the characters, but when you're reading, you want to read how the authors wanted it read by the audience. I think.
6  The Honky Tonk Lounge / Getbackers Manga Discussion / Re: Who do you think is the strongest GetBackers character? on: August 22, 2010, 11:46:43 am
31 volumes in I would have to say Ban and Akabane. Granted the fight in the anime may pale in comparison to the one in the manga, I hope they don't actually happen the same. I truly want to see Jackal at full power versus a very pissed off and very powerful Ban Mido.
7  The Honky Tonk Lounge / Getbackers Anime Discussion / Re: Your fav Getbackers Gal on: August 22, 2010, 11:43:49 am
Nope, hands down, Himiko is my favorite. She's bad-ass for a while, until the poor girl becomes our tragic damsel-in-distress in the "Lost Time Arc." I dunno, aside from Hevn's massive knockers, I'm a sucker for the petite tomboyish type. Only thing better is Yomiko Readman, but that's a whole different series.
8  The Honky Tonk Lounge / Getbackers Anime Discussion / Re: Favourite Pairings? on: August 22, 2010, 11:40:58 am
Ok, I only read the first page, so if this has been said multiple times, I apologize for being lazy. Yes, the Ban/Ginji pairing is better if you look at it as more of a soul brother kind of love. Real close friends who work good together. However, before they did the whole, "Oh, Ban, Himiko and you are related," I was all for a Ban/Himiko pairing. Way to piss me off Ayamine-sensei. Well, should that be Aoki-sensei I should be blaming? I hope it's like some distilled crap, or not even true.... here's to unveiling that secret with the rest of the forums. Oh, and to prove I'm not like, anti-Yaoi or anything, I'm totally down for a Kazuki/Juubei pairing.
9  The Honky Tonk Lounge / Getbackers Anime Discussion / Re: Did anyone notice this episode on: August 22, 2010, 11:36:18 am
Once I became one of those aggravating people who doesn't watch the bad dubs I stopped watching Rave Master. Maybe if I can find a good Japanese sub. Or maybe get the stick out of my ass and rewatch the series. Although.... I should also just read the Rave Master manga, since it actually seemed pretty good as well. However, the fact that they had characters cross over shows how in tune the studios can be. Collaborations are pretty cool. I mean, did anyone see the DBZ/One Piece crossover chapter? That was some gold stuff.
10  The Honky Tonk Lounge / General Anime Discussion / Re: Durarara! on: August 22, 2010, 11:31:48 am
The story is kind of all over the place much like Baccano! was at first, but then you start piecing it together and it gets really interesting. Although.... I should probably watch the second half of the series.
11  The Honky Tonk Lounge / General Anime Discussion / Re: What was the latest anime you completed/watched? on: August 22, 2010, 11:30:24 am
Okay, last completed series was finally finishing Slayers Try after almost 8 years of being too lazy to rent it. And Slayers Revolution. As for last watched, I'm on like, ep 6 of Slayers Evolution-R.
12  The Honky Tonk Lounge / General Anime Discussion / Re: What got you started in Anime? on: August 22, 2010, 11:28:48 am
Let's see, back before I knew they were anime it was Voltron and the original Dragon Ball, and of course Sailor Moon. Once I moved in with my mom and stepdad who was a huge DBZ fan, we started to check out other anime, and it kind of exploded from there. So it's been 12 years and running since I started enjoying anime and manga and all the wonderful fun it's offered.
13  The Honky Tonk Lounge / General Manga Discussion / Re: Suggestions for good mangas to read on: August 22, 2010, 11:20:06 am
Marchen Awakens Romance is also a good one by the Flame of Recca author. I notice he likes using item mediums in his manga. Madogu in FoR, ARMs in MAR, and now in Mixim7 they use items to channel their abilities. Good concept, but I think the guy's hooked. Kami Kaze is a pretty short, but bloody manga to enjoy. Black Cat was interesting with several good fights. Of course there's the obvious Takuma Fudou reference in there. Samurai Deeper Kyo is probably my number 2 favorite besides GB. There's a list....
14  The Honky Tonk Lounge / General Manga Discussion / Re: Gene Simmons' Son Plagiarizing Bleach on: August 22, 2010, 11:14:00 am
Granted, there may be something resembling an original plot, but why take something that exists and change a few things around. I say you just take the art style, tweak it around, and make your own crap up. I mean, take Fairy Tale and Rave Master. There are a lot of character similarities, and one downright rip between the two Plues, but Mashima takes things and changes them around so that they each have a distinct feeling. And I'm pretty sure he doesn't reuse fight scenes. If Nick is gonna make his own comic, use your ability and actually draw. Don't just copy poses because you can't make your own crap up.
15  The Honky Tonk Lounge / General Manga Discussion / Re: What was the latest manga you completed/read? on: August 22, 2010, 11:05:47 am
Last manga I completed was Suzuka, a touching little romance manga. As for last one I read, I'm currently reading GB vol. 1-25 for like, the 80th time.
