1  The Honky Tonk Lounge / Getbackers Anime Discussion / Re: Are there any GB merch you have/wish to have? on: November 02, 2012, 10:21:15 pm
My friend has started making dolls and she made these awesome Ban & Ginji dolls!  They are so cute, I can't believe that she's actually selling them!  I would buy them but I don't get paid for another whole week.

Akabane's hat = EPIC!  I would love to have his hat and the scalpels too (if my partner would let me keep them, that is! LOL)
3  The Honky Tonk Lounge / Getbackers Anime Discussion / Re: How were you guys introduced to GetBackers? on: July 17, 2012, 11:22:12 am
I watched some really bad Hong Kong subtitled dvds with my girlfriend.  (I think I posted the whole sordid tale in another thread earlier!)  And the manga I first saw in a few preview pages in Newtype.  I have sadly not read it yet, even though I have been in love with the series since the Anime was about half-done in Japan.  But I have a whole pile of manga that sits on my shelf and never gets read because I spend so much of my time watching anime or writing I forget to pause and read.
4  The Honky Tonk Lounge / Getbackers Anime Discussion / Re: Have you made others watch/read Get Backers? on: July 17, 2012, 11:16:39 am
Of course I have!  After, of course, I was talked into watching by my partner.  She'd read an online review and saw some sample pages from the manga and was hooked right away!  We originally watched some really badly subtitled dvds we bought off of eBay. This was back in the day when you could get them on eBay still.  I think the show was still airing in Japan, actually!  There were a few times when we were laughing our butts off over the lousy subtitles and had no idea what was going on, but the moment the english dvds hit the shelves, we were buying them.  They were one of the few things we actually pre-ordered.

And we've shown the series to anyone who would sit still long enough to watch it and talked it up to all of our friends, even the ones who aren't into anime!

I've been looking for a nice wall scroll.  I have a whole batch of posters from ebay and one wallscroll that's a knock-off of I think a trading card or postcard.  It's nice enough but I really want something where I can see Ban & Ginji better.  And I would LOVE to get anything with Akabane on it!

Hello!  I go by the moniker of "evilninja" on the forums here, but I'm also known as Hermit and I'm one half of the writing team for Wandering Stars Press (see the link to our facebook at the bottom of post).  We're about a week from putting out our first M/M erotica book and wanted to get the word out.  This is the first book in a series that is part of the Parliament of Twilight world we've created.  Currently, that world encompasses 3 different series we're working on.  The first book of each one is done and in the editing/proof-reading process.    We're going to be aiming for a new book released every 6-8 weeks.  Ambitious, but we have a pretty good head start and a great system in place for getting the work done.

I'm happy to answer any questions about the books, the writing process or whatever.

But I don't want to an attention whore,  Wink so I am leaving this post open to anyone else who wants to promote/talk about books they've read or written.  I can't wait to hear about other authors.

Your stuff is really cute.  I hope you are still drawing and will put up some more.

I really get into a lot of different fandoms, though GetBackers was one of the first I got into for the Yaoi aspect.  Surprisingly, there's only one fanfic that came of it, and it was one my partner wrote for me to make going to the dentist less scary.  (Akabane was involved, so it didn't really help, but it was nice of her to try!)

Other than that, I'm really into Bleach, One Piece, Tsubasa, Yami no Matsuei, YuGiOh and Deathnote.  Other than anime, I used to be really big into the My Chemical Romance fandom, but it just got dumb after a while.  Still a HUGE fan of the band, though.  And from TV, it's White Collar and Supernatural that take up most of my time, but I do love a few other shows.
9  The Honky Tonk Lounge / General Anime Discussion / Re: What got you started in Anime? on: May 31, 2012, 09:00:19 pm
I grew up watching the same stuff most people did while not knowing it was anime.  But the first thing I watched that really got me into it was Rayearth.  Before that all I'd seen was the hentai this guy I was sort of dating had around his house.  But that was back in the day of ordering VHS tapes via mail order from Right Stuff and it seemed like porn was all you could get.

I watched a lot of the things I've seen listed; transformers, GI Joe, Jem, and a ton more.

But I was OBSESSED with Gargoyles.  I still am a little bit!  I was so excited when they were releasing the nice dvd copies.  My old VHS tapes were wearing out!

I've always loved The Little Mermaid the most, but Beauty & the Beast made me weep when I saw it in the theater!
12  The Honky Tonk Lounge / General Manga Discussion / Re: What was the latest manga you completed/read? on: May 29, 2012, 04:56:12 pm

I am a big fan of xxxHolic -- both the anime and the manga.  I just finished reading the final volume of it in English which finally came out; I'd had it on preorder for months!  I never actually read Tsubasa, though I cheated and read about it in a Clamp wiki so I could have some kind of vague understanding of its connection to xxxHolic.   Wink  I really need to read it properly, though.  That should be MY next thing I read.

I can't say enough about how awesome Tsubasa is, and I've just started reading xxxHolic this week, finally.  I had to pry them out of my partner's greedy clutches!  I pretty much know the story, as she's been giving my the cliffnotes while she's been reading but I love CLAMP so much that I want to read it for myself.
13  The Honky Tonk Lounge / Getbackers Anime Discussion / Re: Who's your Fav character? on: May 29, 2012, 04:49:53 pm
As much as I love the monkeys  Shocked  I had to pick Akabane.  He's one of the BEST villains in the history of anime or manga and definitely an inspiration to me with the villains I write!!

Okay, I have to admit, most of the cast of GB have found a way to slip into my books.  This is one of the most inspiring series I have ever been blessed enough to run across.  It's a go-to when I have writer's block.  I even sometimes  Roll Eyes  throw in the ancient DVD-Rs I have of the crap-tastic Hong Kong subs from maybe 9 or 10 years ago, before the nice DVDs came out.
14  The Honky Tonk Lounge / General Manga Discussion / Re: What Do You Look at First, When Picking out a New Series to Read? on: March 18, 2012, 04:58:47 pm
The quickest way to get me to pick up a manga is to tell me there's an anime!  I love seeing the characters in full color, moving and talking.

But, that isn't the only determining factor.  I can be really picky about what series I read.  I have to like the art, the story, the dialogue and the translation.  There's a few that I can't read because the "Official" translation uses bad English or puts everything in a weird typeset - i.e. INVU looks like it might be a fun shojo romp, but I can't focus on the pages because the font they used makes it look cheap and instead of leaving it in the original right to left format, it was flipped to read "properly" for English.  That is also a HUGE turn off for me.  I have a really hard time with the books that are done left to right rather than the original right to left.  It messes up the flow for me when I'm reading, which I know is strange because I am a native English speaker.
15  The Honky Tonk Lounge / General Manga Discussion / Re: What was the latest manga you completed/read? on: March 18, 2012, 04:51:10 pm
This week I finished reading Hellsing *finally!* I've been holding on to the last volume for like 5 months now, because I wasn't sure I was going to like the ending.  But it turns out, that I did!  YAY!  I normally don't go for the stories with THIS MUCH violence and gore, but very little of the killing, maiming, destroying was really all that out of hand gory.  The characters were more interesting and the story much more compelling than I would have guessed from watching the original 12(13?) episode anime.  Now, I am looking for Hellsing Ultimate, which is supposed to be much closer to the actual manga story line.

I also finished Tsubasa: reservoir chronicles.  The last 3 or 4 volumes were a total mindf**k and I had to read some of the chapters a couple of times in order to grasp what was going on, but the journey (which for me was over the course of nearly 2 years!) was amazing!  It also made me really curious about reading xxxHolic.  I loved the anime, but never really understood HOW interconnected the two stories got.  I think that is going to be my next read.
